The BocaGrande™  clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces by Waters are an acrylic  mouthpiece designed for students who want to increase their range and tone quality. The BocaGrande™  clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces' hand finished chamber design and professionally refaced tip allow air to move through with less resistance. The BocaGrande™ clarinet and saxophone mouthpiece design allows the student to play higher notes while maintaining dark round low notes with better tone quality without having to blow hard.

The secret as passed on to us is in the increased  airflow within the chamber, rather than through the tip opening.  This is achieved by balancing  the airflow between the sidewalls, the back wall and an increased  curvature of the window. The tip opening  remains smaller to reduce resistance. The tip opening on many clarinet and saxophone mouthpieces is open more for a bigger sound, but there is also more resistance which is why they are harder to play.  By adjusting the chamber, the BocaGrande has a more cylindrical characteristic than straight out of the factory made mouthpieces. Since the body of the clarinet is cylindrical, so are the sound waves.  The BocaGrande eases air turbulence as it enters the instrument, helping to maintain this cylindrical shape and reducing resistance.

The resulting decrease in resistance keeps the tone centered and clear. The player then has the advantage of playing higher notes easier while maintaining the dark round lower notes.

Since the resistance is decreased, the player often will be able to step up to  a harder reed. This helps center the tone even better than with simply molded factory made mouthpieces. 

For the Alto Sax mouthpiece, this means that the chamber design allows air to move through the mouthpiece with less turbulence and resistance. The air can then through the instrument with fewer disturbances from the beginning; this in turn allows the player to maintain the tonal center with ease. The acrylic alto sax mouthpiece also has a fairly closed tip opening (yet still slightly more open then a basic student factory piece) which means less resistance for the player and a better sound with less effort. The increased airflow occurs in the chamber rather than at the tip.  The hand-finished chamber allows for a more controlled centered sound.  This mouthpiece is designed with the beginning student in mind, it is easy to play and hand crafted at an affordable price.

 Machines cannot make a clarinet and saxophone mouthpiece like this. This type of mouthpiece has to be finished by hand.  You do not have to pay more for a name!
